Late Nights

By Keating | December 12, 2008

A few nights ago I was walking through a park, taking some photos, when I noticed that the ducks in the duck pond were swimming around. This was 4:30 in the morning. When do ducks sleep? They weren’t exactly lively, but they were definately quacking and whatnot. Maybe it was just some bad apples.

Speaking of muppets, I’ve been drawing them quite a bit and it’s actually a really interesting challenge. Once you start really paying attention to the Muppets you’ll notice that most of them have frozen expressions. Almost all of the personality is sold through the voice and the physical performance. I’ve been trying to capture the expressiveness of the characters without altering the facial expressions. I want to draw muppets, not cartoon versions of muppets. If that makes sense. Hopefully in the not too distant future you’ll get to see some of my efforts.

That’s really interesting – I’ve never thought about the Muppets’ expressions like that before. Some of them don’t even blink, I guess. It’s just amazing that you don’t even notice these things, the puppeteers (muppeteers?) are just so amazing.
